What are the disadvantages of PPF (paint protection film)?

Paint Protection PPF IconPaint protection film (PPF) offers numerous benefits, such as protecting a vehicle’s paint from scratches, chips, and environmental damage. However, there are also some disadvantages associated with PPF:

  1. Cost:
  2. Installation Complexity
  3. Maintenance
  4. Appearance
  5. Limited Protection
  6. Removability
  7. Durability
  8. Limited Coverage

Cost:

PPF cost can be significant, especially for top-grade films as well as in case when the full-vehicle is covered. It is these upfront costs that can prohibit some car owners from purchasing vehicles.

Installation Complexity:

The skill and the experience of the expert cover the correct installation of PPF properly. During the installation in the proper manner, the goal is to avoid air bubbles, wrinkles, and peeling that affect the appearance of the vehicle negatively.

Maintenance:

It is important to note that PPF offers pattern protection against minor damages, but this additional care and maintenance may be needed to keep the system running and attractive. Routine cleaning may not be enough to prevent accumulation of dust, dirt, or contamination especially on the exposed surfaces.

Appearance:

Even though PPF is almost invisible, the film type of that quality could change the appearance of the vehicle a little bit. It could become apparent as well after the analysis of the fine details, primarily at the end of the installation period.

Limited Protection:

It has to be pointed out that the protection provided by PPF is multifunctional, thus, it can prevent a number of the minor damages, but, on the other hand, PPF may not be invulnerable to other hazards. Sharpest objects and partial impact accidents or harsh chemicals might have an effect on the paint if not protected by PPF but at a lower rate than without PPF.

Removability:

PPF is easy to remove, mostly as long as it’s properly installed, but the removal process involves using special solvents or tools and, so, it can take a significant amount of time. If the old layers paint is not peeled correctly, then the base paint can be harmed and it necessitates extra expense to repair.

Durability:

The fact that PPF is built specifically to last and to be sturdy may lead to much wear of the product with time in case there is exposure to light, heat, and other external factors. The most notable UV radiation effect is the loss of that color or instability as the film becomes yellow or brittle due to sun exposure.

Limited Coverage:

PPF generally becomes a highlight of such a car at the parts which can be damaged from impacting with other cars and/or pedestrians easily, for example the front bumper, hood, and side mirrors. Nevertheless, it perhaps devoid of a total shield of the car against damages; however, the areas therein may still be exposed.

Generally, the pros of PPF coverings are undeniable, they decrease the damage to the paint and hinder corrosion. Also at the same time, the buyer needs to make a balanced decision on whether to spend on that particular protection and consider the budgetary and other limitations.
